What Is More Common -Nighttime Or Daytime Burglaries?
Posted by Pierre Levingston in Home Security
What time is a burglar more likely to strike? Day or night? We know that burglaries can happen at any time of day, but when is it most common?
The answer to this question may surprise some people. When we pictures a burglar we normally think of a person dressed all in black lurking in the darkness. But the truth is, the majority of break-ins happen during the day.
Burglars aren’t as noticed during the daytime. At night, when they are breaking in to someone’s home, they can easily be spotted because of outdoor lighting. During the day time when someone is opening a window to creep inside it won’t draw as much attention as it would if they were doing it during the night.
This is why outside security lighting can be such a drawback for burglars. They don’t want to have the unwanted attention that comes from breaking in to a home during the night. Outside lighting around your home makes it nearly impossible for a thief to have any guarantee that they haven’t been seen from a neighbor’s window.
Most daytime crimes happen from 7 to 10 in the morning. This time is popular because burglars want to be sure they are alone in your home. They wait outside your home until you leave for work or take the kids to school before they break inside.
Daytime offers burglars the most opportunity to get what they want. To avoid someone breaking in to your home during the daytime hours, be sure to continue to keep your doors and windows locked. Even if you are home, or are only stepping out for a moment, you should still keep your home properly secure. You should also keep your curtains and draperies closed when you are not at home so a thief won’t see something that they think is worth stealing inside your home.
There are some burglars that do prefer nighttime burglary. These thieves normally use the dark to cover their tracks. They find homes that don’t have clear yards or outdoor lighting so they can gain quick access inside the home and make a quick get away.
All research has come to the same conclusion. Burglary can happen at any time. Turn on your alarm system and remember to continue to keep to basic security measures at all times of the day.
