As our lifestyles and needs have changed, the home security industry has been working hard to remain responsive to what we want and need in a security surveillance system. The devices and monitoring services available today far exceed anything available to most homeowners twenty years ago.

In the early days of security systems, the goal was to warn you if someone tried to enter your home. Over the years the number of security surveillance system components has grown to meet changing needs. Components such as these were added:

* smoke and fire detectors, motion detectors, and glass break monitors

Burglar alarms are a form of electronic device that helps keep your house safe from unwanted intruders. They not only sound an alarm but also can act as a deterrent when there is signage indicating that an alarm is installed on the premises. Burglars want easy access and often will skip over houses that appear to have alarms.

There are two major forms of burglar alarms. They are wireless and hard wired burglar alarms. A hard wired alarm tends to have high installation as well as maintenance costs, which is the main reason why wireless burglar alarms are so popular.

There can be no doubt that the home security alarm system has become very popular in recent years. These systems have become more affordable and companies have become more aggressive in selling systems to homeowners. But there are many reasons more people are installing security systems in their homes. Here are some of the most important.

1. People install a home security alarm system because they want to feel safer at home. The evening news often includes a story about a home invasion or a burglary. In general, people just don’t feel as safe ” that’s why they lock their doors and windows now.

In 1852 the American Edward Holmes invented the first electro-mechanical burglar alarm. Prior to this the family watch dog was the usual form of protection from intruders. Holmes’ invention was quite simple. Trip wires were places around windows and doors. When a wire was disturbed a solenoid struck a gong, thus alerting the residents of possible danger. It was well received by the public, and was not improved upon until the next century.

The investment in your home or business is well worth protecting, and today’s modern burglar alarm systems offer a convenient, inexpensive way of doing just that.

Shop around and it’s easy to see the advantages that exist with today’s burglar alarm systems when compared to the systems of even just a few years ago. By comparison, today’s burglar alarm systems are more effective, easier to use, and far less costly than their earlier counterparts. And as a result of advances in technology, modern burglar alarm systems are far less likely to issue so-called “false alarms” that can occur when an older system is inadvertently activated.

The recession and rising joblessness are taking a toll in many ways in our society. One of those is the rising burglary rate. If a burglary was happening every twelve seconds before the recession, it is hard to imagine what the rate is now. One way to protect yourself and your property is with a wireless burglar alarm.

You don’t have to live in a high-crime neighborhood or in a gated mansion to be targeted for robbery. With more than 60% of robberies occurring in the daytime by forcible entry, installing a wireless burglar alarm is just smart.

Video security systems are essentially of two types, although they can certainly be coordinated into a comprehensive system. If you are considering video security options, you are probably well along the way in building your home security network. You will need to determine the best camera and lens for your needs, as well as the recording technology appropriate for your system.

It is possible to purchase a video security system in almost any price range. But the clearest pictures, the most reliable recordings, and the most secure storage will cost more. Chances are that if you feel the need for video security, it will be worth the cost to get the best equipment.
