Posted by Kelly Fon in Self Defence
You can check out different self-protection facts and you'll know that ladies are victimized by perpetrators all of the time. The depressing reality is these facts don’t paint the entire picture because there are numerous of street persecution cases that are never reported. In fact , there’s an even chance that you have been stressed before. If you have never been harassed, you really have to know that the threat is real. Yes, it's a threat because harassment regularly leads to violence.
Now that you have noticed that the threats are real, here are some of the things you can do when faced with street harassment:
Keep walking.
It isn't a good idea to confront those harassing you especially if they're a reasonable distance away. Let's imagine that you're on the unpleasant end of hoots and wolf whistles. You may be almost convinced to swear at the men doing it. Keep your calm and just keep walking off from their perspective. At that point, it's important that you go toward the direction where there are a large number of people. You also need to be vigilant in case somebody makes a decision to follow you.
Be powerful.
What if you are head to head with the man who’s badgering you? Be strong and show robust body language. He's harassing you because he feels that he'll overwhelm you. Be pushy and look him in the eyes. In a firm voice, let him know to get back. At that point, he’ll gauge you if you're a fat target. Show him that you're not. Show him that you are in full control of the situation and you can easily get out of it when needed.
Do not resort to violence unless you actually need to.
That's why it is important to be calm and picked up - so you can properly gauge the situation. Much of the time, violence is not required. If you resort to violence, you may just anger him and he’ll resort to violence too. But if there's a valid threat, you can resort to violence so that you can protect yourself.
Use a self defense gizmo.
In actual fact there’s a good chance that you do not really need to resort to violence in the sense that you will punch or kick the individual harassing you. You can just utilise a self-protection device like a pepper gas or stun gun. You can incapacitate him and that will give you a chance to get away from there.
Follow these things and you can stop persecution from escalating to something more deadly.
