Drawer safes may not be as commonplace or popular as other types of safes such as office safes or fireproof safes, in fact up to last year I wasn’t even sure what a drawer safe actually was! However all that changed when my home was burgled last year and I lost not only many items of value but items of sentimental value as well which no amount of financial compensation could ever replace.

I could have protected my personal valuables by having a drawer safe and prevented the theft of these items. Often drawer safes are called hidden safes as it is unlikely a thief will know where to find it, and even if they do, they will not be able to open it which of course means your valuables inside will remain protected and secure.

The most popular drawer safes have been specifically adapted to safeguard valuables such as jewelry, cash, ID cards, passports and handguns. They are manufactured for the home market by companies who are experts in designing and installing secure, private safes and hidden compartments. As most people want to keep their jewelry in them, these safes are commonly known as a jewelry drawer safe.

I was amazed by the huge range of drawer safes on the market and thought it wise to do some research before I decided which one was right for me. A feature of some drawer safes is easy opening means you dont have to worry about keys, or where you left them, or have to try to remember combination numbers. This type of safe can be opened in seconds by pressing a concealed switch or switches, however as you are the only person to know where the safe actually is and how it opens, it provides secure protection for your valuable items. Even other members of your household wont know where the safe is unless of course you tell them!

Many drawer safes are fire-resistant and operate on a 12 volt system that mean they work even if your electricity is out! Many types of switches can be used to open drawer safes but we won’t get into that on the Internet.

Have you though about other items you could store securely in your drawer safe? Increasingly family medications both prescribed and off the shelf, are being kept in drawer safes. We have all know the consequences of children having unsupervised access to prescription drugs therefore many parents will buy drawer safes to give peace of mind that their children are unable to gain access to them.

As drawer safes are small, compact and unobtrusive many hotel chains have decided to replace conventional cupboard safes with a drawer safe. Not only does this create more space in the main closet or cupboard, but has the added advantage of holding a variety of laptop sizes. With rising real estate costs this adds value which offsets the initial cost of purchasing the drawer safe and most newly built hotels will most probably have a drawer safe as standard.
