What Is The Process For San Antonio Water Damage Restoration?
Posted by Wilmer Boscoe in Home Security
San antonio Water Damage Restoration services work the same way as anywhere else. Water leaks and flooding can destroy your home or property. Water damage restoration professionals work to bring your home back to the predamage condition. Federal government does not regulate the restoration industry at the present; however, there are two organizations that provide guidelines for the industry to follow. RIA and IICRC provide the standards.
Even though standards and guidelines are there for companies to follow, it is important to remember that under certain circumstances the companies may have to deviate from the guidelines. While there is no Federal regulation of this industry, there are Federal, State and local laws regarding who can perform these services.
The procedures listed by RIA or the IIRC should be followed when possible.
Documenting all items that have been damaged is a must. These items may need to be replaced or, if possible, fixed in order to get them back to the original condition. If restoring the furnishings is going to cost more than it is worth, it will be replaced.
Inspect the area that is affected or believed to be affected. The company will locate the source of the water with equipment specifically meant for this process. Once the entire affected area is identified, the first step is to dry it. Then, it will need to be sanitized and deodorized. Dehumidifiers, giant fans, air scrubbers and some other drying tools will more than likely be left at the home when the labor part is complete. The company will come back to the home within two or three days to reevaluate the cleanup effort. At this time, if everything went right, the equipment will probably be removed.
The amount of pollution in the water will place the damage into one of three categories.
- If the water came from a clean and sanitary location, it is a Category 1. - If the contamination in the water may make you sick or cause discomfort, it is a Category 2. - If death or illness could result from swallowing the water, it is a Category 3.
If at all possible, move all undamaged furnishings from the area yourself. If you do not move them and the company has to, they will charge you for it.
If you have any questions, do not be afraid to ask.
When the temperature, moisture and humidity reach acceptable levels, the restoration is complete.
As with any job, carelessness is not okay. Research the guidelines recommended to see if the company is following them. If they are not, it is okay to ask why they are doing it different.
