Minneapolis Garage Door Repair Tips And Tricks
Posted by Justina Jaberwocky in Home Security
Garage doors are made from a variety of materials including fiberglass, wood and metal. These doors can be plain or decorative. Regardless of what style they are, having good springs is what makes them work. According to minneapolis Garage Door Repair specialists, any time a garage door is worked on, the individual should always watch out for the springs. A quick release of these springs can cause an injury.
Springs and cables tend to stretch overtime creating an unsafe situation where the door is not balanced right. Anything that is beneath the door when it closes is at risk of being damaged or hurt by doors that close too quickly. Another problem is potential shoulder injuries or damage to the door if it opens too fast. A door that is operating correctly will maintain the same position when opened up three to four feet. The door should also not close or open hard. Adjustments to the spring tension may need to be done is this is the problem.
A guide is listed to aid in solving the out of balance issue.
1.) Open the garage door to create a three to four foot opening. Move the door up and down until a spot is found where the door remains in position. If the location is more than four feet off the ground, adjustments need to be made.
2.) To make it easier and safer to work on the door, hold the door open using a ladder or C clamps. This will keep it from closing on you while you work and also lessens the tension on the springs.
3.) All tension from the spring should be removed completely before taking the spring off the track. Use the next available high hole if the problem was the door closing rapidly. For doors that open rapidly, use the next available lower hole. Recheck the door after moving the springs on both sides.
4.) Using a level, make sure that both sides of the door are even when it closes. If not, readjust the springs.
5.) Minute fixes may be required. If this is the case, made adjustments to the cable and not the springs. Since the cables are joined to the door by S springs that are attached to the track support, the S spring will have to be removed. The cable may need to be tightened or loosened depending on the problem.
