Who will forget when, in September 2007, the University of Florida student said the words — don’t tase me bro — as he was being subdued by police officers? Tasers gained mainstream awareness, as they were quite obviously an effective self defense alternative. Many people achieved a better understanding of just how effective these items are in a tense situation.

Dont tase me bro are memorable words because of the effective performance of a taser. They work from several feet away, which is why they are ideal for protecting yourself and your family against an attacker. A taser prevents an assailant from coming in close contact with you. It also incapacitates a person long enough for you to get away safely.

It is important to remember that tasers are nonlethal, because they cause no permanent injury. These weapons immobilize somebody for 30 seconds through the use of compressed nitrogen, which is shot through two electrically charged probes. High-voltage disrupts the central nervous system, which makes it impossible to do anything.

In the past few years, the phrase, dont tase me bro, has become a pop culture icon. Its among the words of the year in the 2007 New Oxford American Dictionary and is listed as the most memorable quote in the 2007 Yale Book of Quotations. Even The Clash and Devo produced songs using the phrase. Putting aside the lightheartedness, tasers can save a persons life when being attacked by an assailant.

Some people have compared a taser to a stun gun, but they are quite different. A stun gun applies only to a localized area, whereas a taser overpowers the entire body. Some taser models also have a contact stun gun as a backup. Note that a taser is effective through 2 inches of clothing, regardless where it hits, and from up to 15 feet away.

A taser is an extremely effective self defense device. Some of the latest models available feature Neuromuscular Incapacitation technology which can temporarily incapacitate an assailant faster than a 9mm handgun. However, a taser does not cause severe harm to a person as a bullet from a gun does.

As the catchphrase don’t taste me bro has become a well-known cry amongst those who have experienced the electrical charge, it also says a lot about the deterrent capabilities of the device. If an assailant sees that you have this device, chances are you won’t need to use it, as the attacker will run away. No criminal wants to experience it.

The Florida student was being confronted by police, when he yelled the phrase don’t tase me bro. The items used by law enforcement are more powerful and can be used from a distance further away, than the technology available for civilian use. However, the civilian items are very efficient, and will be sufficient to protect you.
