Identity theft has become a rampant crime in the US. Identity theft causes you to lose your personal information and thieves use that to take advantage of you when you are using your internet connection. You need to be very careful when you give out these information over the internet.
Prevent identity thieves from hacking your computer by installing antivirus software and establish a firewall. These software are able to block viruses from entering your PC. Hackers usually use keylogging viruses to steal your personal details.
Companies like Microsoft and Apple provide their users with up to date versions of these software. If hackers can update their methods of hacking your computer, you also need to update your security system.
Important records should be stored in a folder protected by a password or it should be encrypted. Windows will allow you to create a folder and put a password on it. Make sure you use varying combinations of numbers and letters to keep security tight.
Spam messages are usually the gateway for identity theft. Most of the time, hackers will send you a random email and when you open it, it instantly hacks your profile. Clear all spam emails by enabling spam filters.
Never leave your laptop in public places. Hackers only need a few seconds to get into your system and take everything away. Be sure to keep it safe and always carry your laptop with you at all times.
Be sure you have enabled the security applications when you establish a wireless connection to the internet.
And lastly, never give your password to anybody. Some people give out their password when a message prompts them to fill in their credit card number. Unless it is from a bank then do so but if it something else, call the customer hotline and see the validity of such message.
